Garmin MapSource is now an obsolete product. We recommend that all users use Garmin BaseCamp to browse and load maps for Garmin GPS units. Open Garmin MapSource (all screenshots from version 6.14.X but the process is similar for all versions) If you don’t have Garmin MapSource check out this tutorial on how to get it. Garmin 60csx product page; Category:GarminGPSmap 60CxUsers; GPSMAP 62 and 78 series. These are updated versions of the 60 and 76 series, released in 2010. All models seem to be based on the STMicroelectronics Cartesio chipset, with a quad helix antenna in the 62 and a patch in the 78.
- Use Garmin Express to update maps and software, sync with Garmin Connect™ and register your device. This desktop software notifies you when updates are available and helps you install them. DOWNLOAD FOR MAC DOWNLOAD FOR WINDOWS.
- Garmin Express says it no longer supports the unit (as you mention) and suggests Webupdater. That program is inlcuded in the Garmin suite installed on my PC. There hasn't been a firmware update for the 60 series for awhile so you probably aren't missing anything there.
Rehabbing from ankle surgery, I haven't had the chance to take the GPS out for a walk in quite a while. Returning home yesterday I attempted to download a track and the computer wouldn't recognize the device. Garmin customer service had no answer other than switching to Base Camp to download to Garmin's map and format.
I've been fortunate that when we upgraded from Win7 to Win10 eighteen months ago, our I.T. person was able to configure the computer to allow me to use Nat'l Geo maps which are a USGS duplicate.
A friend pointed me to a link that said the 2016 Windows anniversary update made some Garmin devices no longer recognizable as Garmin devices formatted with FAT12,16 or 32 file systems are no longer recognized as mass storage devices. Garmin Express software v4.1.25 may solve the problem but Garmin Express has more up to date versions that seemingly aren't supporting the 60CSX.
Has anyone found a work around? Doug Paul, do you have any suggestions? Thanks to Doug Paul, he found me a second 60CSX that I use as a back up so I'm reluctant to ditch the units for a new one.
Thanks

There are a couple of options. On recent firmware, Go to the Main Menu, then select or press Tracks:Enter:Setup:Enter:Data Card Setup:Enter:Menu:Card Info:Enter On any firmware, but you can start Mapsourceand read maps from the GPS. In the tab for 'maps' it will display a total ofthe space used. Alternately, you can put the GPS into Mass Storage mode andview the disk usage on it from your favorite computer. | |
4. | Why do I sometimes see two firmware version numbers displayed? |
If you see two version numbers displayed, the first is the main OS of the receiver. The second is the version of the code used by the receiver circuit. Around mid 2008, Garmin started shipping these models with Mediatek receivers instead of the SirfStar III receiver chips. If there is no letter after the second version or the letter is 's', you have a Sirf model. If there is an 'm', you have a Mediatek receiver. |
