Follow the onscreen instructions, which will guide you through the steps necessary to install. Begin installation. After installation of the installer is complete, open the Applications folder on your Mac, then double-click the file named Install OS X El Capitan. If your Mac isn't compatible with OS X El Capitan, the installer will let you know. Jul 13, 2015 I am trying to install the Public Beta version of El Capitan and after about 10-15 mins of trying to install, a message pops up that says 'no packages were eligible for install.

Installing El Capiton on an old Mac Book Pro today, I received the error:

OS X could not be installed on your computer

No packages were eligible for install. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance.

Quit the installer to restart your computer and try again.

I checked Appleā€™s support Matrix (it is a very old macbook pro) at https://support.apple.com/kb/SP728?locale=en_GB and it was listed as supported.

After lots of Googling and investigation, I discovered that the date and time were not set to current, the macbook thought it was year 2000.

You can easily reset the time and date by following the steps below:

  • Click Utilities on the menu bar
  • Select Terminal
  • Type date
  • Confirm the date is wrong
  • Type date 062112422016 (example: June 21st 12:42 2016)
  • Exit terminal
  • Click Restart

Once the Date and time are configured you will be able to install OS X.

Reinstall

Easy fix, for a ridiculous error!

I have a Mac mini with OS 10.6.8, 2 GB of memory and 58GB of storage available on the hard drive.

I am trying to update to OSX El Capitan so I can download the latest version of iTunes (My iPhone 6 upgraded to the latest iOs9 on 10/1/15 and now my current version of iTunes can't see my phone because my phone needs the latest version of ITunes and the latest version of iTunes won't work with OS 10.6.8).

El Capitan Won't Install

When I try to upgrade to El Capitan, I get the message that 'this version of OSx 10.11 cannot be installed on this computer' but no further information as to why not. Any ideas?
